UAE's First Musical Road in Fujairah Turns Daily Drives into Beethoven Symphonies

In a unique blend of art, engineering, and public joy, Fujairah has introduced the UAE's first-ever musical road, transforming a regular commute into a melodic journey. Located just before the Fujairah Police Headquarters on Sheikh Khalifa Street, the 1km-long stretch plays Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony when cars drive over it at an optimal speed.

This musical marvel was designed by the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy and is being hailed as the first of its kind in the Arab world. Special rumble strips embedded into the road surface act like piano keys, producing harmonious notes when driven over at around 100 km/h, turning vehicles into moving instruments.

A Drive-Through Symphony

What started as a creative arts initiative has quickly become a viral social media sensation and an unexpected tourist attraction. Residents and visitors alike are intentionally rerouting just to experience what many now call the “singing road.”

• Amr Ahmed Kazeem, a Dubai resident, added: “My car suddenly turned into a piano — it was magical.”

• Nida Amaan, who visited with her kids, said, “They now call it ‘the singing road’ — it’s become a family memory.”

• Lane: Use the rightmost lane where the rumble strips are

• Tyre alignment: Right tyres directly on the white strips

• Environment: Turn off your radio and lower your windows for a better listening experience

• Safety: Don’t record while driving — hand over your phone to a passenger

A Permanent Installation with Expansion Plans

Ali Obaid Al Hafiti, Director of the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy, confirmed that the project is permanent. “The musical piece chosen is universally recognized and symbolizes unity and celebration,” he said. Plans are already underway for similar musical installations featuring local compositions in other areas of the emirate.
