Nikon Middle East & Africa hosted an unforgettable red-carpet premiere at VOX Cinemas, Deira City Centre, marking the regional launch of the Nikon ZR, the latest addition to the Z Cinema lineup, born from Nikon’s collaboration with RED Digital Cinema.
Titled “Nikon ZR Premier”, the event celebrated the groundbreaking camera that is redefining what’s possible in compact cinema production. The evening brought together media professionals, photographers, videographers, partners, and creators from across the region for an exclusive screening of a short film shot entirely on the Nikon ZR, demonstrating its extraordinary cinematic potential.

A new era of compact cinema
The Nikon ZR ushers in a new chapter in filmmaking innovation. Equipped with a full-frame sensor and Nikon’s exclusive R3D NE RAW recording format (developed in partnership with RED), the ZR delivers up to 6K/59.94p recording, 15 + stops of dynamic range, and dual base ISO 800 and 6400 for stunning image quality in any light.
It is also the world’s first interchangeable-lens full-frame camera to offer 32-bit float audio recording, providing true professional-grade sound capture through its built-in OZO Audio system. Combined with advanced subject-detection AF, a high-brightness 4.0-inch DCI-P3 monitor, and a compact 540 g body, the Nikon ZR places cinematic power literally in the palm of your hand.
Commenting on the launch, Narendra Menon, Managing Director of Nikon Middle East & Africa, said: “The Nikon ZR represents a major leap in the videography industry, as it joins Nikon’s time-honored camera technology with RED’s world famous color science and cinema codecs. The camera brings cinematic production capabilities into a form factor that’s accessible, compact, and intuitive, empowering a new generation of filmmakers, content creators, and professionals to tell their stories with uncompromised quality.”“Tonight’s premiere at VOX Cinemas reflects our belief that the ZR doesn’t just capture movies — it inspires them,” added Menon.

An evening of innovation and inspiration
The red-carpet premiere echoed the excitement of a true movie launch, complete with cinematic ambience and hands-on product demos. Guests experienced first-hand how Nikon is bridging the gap between professional film production and handheld creativity. The show started with the ZR Film, a production by Nikon Middle East and Africa, shot by Last Minute Production, and color graded by Emirati creator Hamad Ahmad. This was followed by a clip titled “In the Name of God” by Director of Photography Mohammad Rezaie, a short documentary titled “A Story of a Storyteller” by Dr. Ali Mohamad, and “Island of Second Chances” by Yobel Muchang. The event concluded with Remarks by Nikon Ambassador Majed AlZaabi.
