Ministry of Health & Prevention Organizes Training Program Highlighting Role of Radiation Protection Officers

The Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP), organized a three-day training program to highlight the function of Radiation Protection Officers (RPO), in cooperation with the University of Sharjah. The program intended to elevate the requirements of the Ministry's radiation protection solutions, along with acquaint radiologists and medical physicists, with the duty of an RPO. Over 30 students and radiation avoidance professionals participated in the training program.

The goal of the program was to inform individuals on the suitable principles and methods to stop radiation in the medical atmosphere, and highlight the value of taking preventative measures. The program also included a discussion on the International Atomic Energy Company (IAEA), and the essential duty played by RPO's, as they are in charge of preventing radiation in compliance with the safety criteria of medical centers at adopt radioactive fields for the medical diagnosis and therapy of diseases.

Dr. Laila Al Jasmi, Deputy Director of MOHAP's Division of Preventive Medication, noted that training workshop intended to enhance the performance of the Ministry's radiation security services, while defining the functions played by radiologists and clinical physicists in preventive medication at hospitals and health centres, with various control jobs and obligations. The Ministry functions to certify these radiologists and medical physicist, making them qualified for license revival, and enabling them to continue practicing their career, while educating them in the area of radiation avoidance. This supports the Ministry's vision to attain the health of the culture, providing the community with comprehensive treatment and a long life.

Al Jasmi explained that protecting against radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions is one of the biggest priorities of the Ministry's Department of Preventive Medicine, as this is among the biggest concerns affecting the health of workers. The training program was launched in adherence with criteria established by the IAEA. Al Jasmi noted that the Ministry will continuously run the training program regularly to maintain team member updated with the most up to date advancement in the area of radiation prevention.

On the final day, the final test was conducted for the students to obtain the approved RPO certification. Additionally, the Training and Development Center recognized the specialists and specialists from the Ministry and the University of Sharjah for their support and rewarding function in the success of this course.
