Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children drives awareness about the importance of reading for children

Part of its awareness campaign for mothers, Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children (AJCCC) hosted the last information session of the year, titled "Teach your children how to read". The event featured a panel discussion at the headquarters of the Centre in Dubai, and the agenda of the session was focused on the importance of reading and learning disorders and how mothers can encourage their children to read. Dr. Siobhan Mcniff, British expert in learning difficulties presented the event in cooperation with the "Child Early Intervention Medical Center" and "Black Iris Caf.

Dr. Siobhan spoke about dyslexia and the obstacles that prevent children from learning, she elaborated ways in which mothers must adopt practices that increase the habit of reading in children. Daily reading habit increases the capacity of creativity, it helps children become more perceptive.

Dr. Siobhan pointed out that poor knowledge and cultural poverty will decrease a childs confidence in public space and reduce his/her ability to express in an articulate manner. This has potential of exposing children to abuse and error, in that context it becomes all the more important to encourage the habit of reading in children.

The open session was very helpful for participating mothers, it generated wider awareness through knowledge and experience sharing, as many participants voiced their concerns and challenges of mentoring their children, and the difficulties faced in promoting the habit of reading in children.

The event was one of the many events that Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children hosts in collaboration with specialized agencies to raise wider awareness in the community. The topics of these series of awareness sessions cover a wide range of topics, including health, social, cultural and family matters. The awareness series events are extremely popular among mothers who are the main agents of behavioral change for the family.
