UAE Enterprises Accelerate AI Adoption While Building Critical Skills, Says Coursera Report
UAE enterprises are rapidly expanding AI adoption while simultaneously strengthening technical and human skills, according to the latest Job Skills Report 2026 released by Coursera. The findings show strong growth in both advanced digital capabilities and leadership-focused competencies as organizations prepare for an AI-driven economy.
The report draws on data from six million enterprise learners across nearly 7,000 institutions worldwide and tracks skill trends across three high-demand domains — Data, IT, and Software & Product Development — along with emerging Generative AI (GenAI) capabilities across job roles.
GenAI Skills See Rapid Growth Across UAE Enterprises
GenAI course enrollments among UAE enterprise learners rose 105% year over year, while enrollments in Professional Certificates increased 95% across all career areas. The surge reflects growing employer preference for industry-recognized micro-credentials that validate job-ready skills.
The report indicates that AI proficiency is no longer limited to technical specialists. Professionals across departments are adding role-specific AI skills on top of core expertise, signaling that AI is being used to augment human capability, not replace it.
Coursera noted that GenAI could contribute up to $81 billion to the UAE economy, reinforcing the importance of workforce readiness, AI literacy, and responsible deployment frameworks.
Foundational Tech Skills Strengthen AI Readiness
As AI adoption deepens, UAE organizations are reinforcing their digital foundations. The fastest-growing technical learning areas among enterprise users include:
-
Network Security — up 136%
-
Cloud Computing — up 76%
-
Software Development — up 67%
-
Data Analysis — up 69%
-
SQL — up 53%
These skills form the operational backbone required to build, secure, and scale AI systems and data infrastructure.
The trend aligns with projections from the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report, which ranks AI, Big Data, and Cybersecurity among the fastest-growing skill areas through the end of the decade.
Human And Strategic Skills Gain Importance
Alongside technical growth, enterprises are increasing investment in human-centered and strategic leadership skills as automation expands. Among UAE enterprise learners, enrollments grew in:
-
Critical Thinking — up 107%
-
Change Management — up 63%
-
Business Management — up 85%
-
Product Management — up 123%
The report highlights that human judgment, adaptability, and strategic oversight remain essential for effective and responsible AI deployment, reinforcing the need for a balanced skills portfolio.
Regional Leadership Perspective
Commenting on the findings, Kais Zribi, General Manager for the Middle East and Africa at Coursera, said enterprises in the UAE are taking a skills-first approach to AI transformation.
He noted that organizations are investing in both foundational technology and leadership capabilities to convert AI ambition into measurable business outcomes and long-term competitiveness.
Global GenAI Learning Trends
Among learners worldwide pursuing GenAI skills, Content Creation ranks as the fastest-growing capability, with Image Analysis and Multimodal Prompting also placing in the top ten. The report also shows improving gender participation, with women’s share of enterprise GenAI enrollments rising from 36% to 41% year over year.
Coursera said the report is designed to guide businesses, governments, and educational institutions in identifying the most critical emerging skills shaping the future of work.
