Thousands expected to turn out for BurJuman Pink Walkathon on Friday
11th edition of the UAE’s longest running breast cancer charity walk will start at 8am on October 31st from Area A, Gate 2 of Zabeel Park

Dubai is all set to turn into a sea of pink this Friday as thousands of men, women and children gather at the Zabeel Park to put their best foot forward in support of breast cancer awareness at the 11th BurJuman Pink Walkathon, the country’s longest running and most widely attended charitable walk for breast cancer outreach and fundraising.

The signature event of BurJuman’s Safe & Sound breast cancer awareness campaign, the Pink Walkathon provides a chance for the community to come together and show their support for the fight against breast cancer by joining hands and marching together to spread the message that ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’.

Kicking off at 8am from the park’s Area A, Gate 2, with on-site registrations beginning at 7am, the annual walk promises participants a fun-filled morning packed with entertainment and activities as the winding tracks and lush landscaped grounds of the popular recreational destination get swept up in a tide of pink caps and T-shirts and unbridled enthusiasm. Participants can also make the event a more personal and special one by bringing banners to dedicate their walk to a loved one.

Getting the participants warmed up and energized for the walk will be the No. 1 English language station in Dubai, Virgin Radio 104.4, part of the Arabian Radio Network, led by fan-favorite Kris Fade and his team who will be entertaining the crowd and playing today’s hottest music tracks before pink confetti gets released into the air to mark the start of the 2-km non-competitive walk. This year’s campaign ambassadors and members of the Brest Friends support group will be leading the walk around the park, accompanied by a parade of entertainers and roaming performers.

“The BurJuman Pink Walkathon is an emphatic showcase of Dubai’s community spirit and has evolved into one of the most anticipated and beloved fixtures on the city’s annual events calendar,” said Genan El-Sayed, Marketing Communications Manager, BurJuman. “The walkathon connects emotionally with communities across the UAE, and more crucially, the very serious cause that underlies the festivities is not lost on the participants. This helps spread the message further and inspires an even greater outpouring of community support with each passing year.”Adding to the day’s festive atmosphere will be non-stop entertainment all morning long with live music from popular band Boxtones, dancers, entertainers and more. There will be activities galore for children such as free arts and crafts and painting, along with a dedicated gaming area. Parking is available around Zabeel Park Area A however it is expected to be busy so for the convenience of participants it is best to come early or car pool on that day.

The 2014 BurJuman Safe & Sound campaign is supported by key sponsors including uniCare Medical Centre, Virgin Radio 104.4, Del Monte, Fitness First and SEL Group of Companies. The campaign’s fund monitor is Bait Al Kheir and initiatives are held in collaboration with Balance Water and Dubai Municipality.

The cause leader for breast cancer awareness in the Middle East, BurJuman Safe & Sound is organizing and hosting a number of events and activities throughout this October - which is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month - to reach out to the community, educate them on breast cancer risk factors, and involve them in the fight against the disease.

This year, residents can also contribute to the cause in a fun new way by taking up The Pink Challenge, giving the soles of their shoes a hot pink makeover to step up breast cancer awareness. Pink sole vinyls and pink ribbon are available from BurJuman for a donation of AED 10. People are invited to share photos of their newly transformed pink soles on social media with #PinkBurJuman and nominate two other people to take the challenge.
