Starwood Hotels & Resorts Announces Broadcast partnership with Al Jazeera Media Network

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) announced a partnership with Al Jazeera Media Network, to feature Al Jazeera news channels in all its properties in Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EAME). As of June 1 2014, both Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic will be available in more than 240 Starwood hotels and resorts in the region.

As Starwood continues to grow its presence in the Middle East, we see an increase in the number of locals and expatriates in the region who choose to stay with us when they travel. By partnering with Al Jazeera Media Network, we will be able to offer additional quality international news to these travellers as well as other guests staying in any Starwood hotel in EAME, said Steven Taylor, Vice President, Marketing for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, EAME. This collaboration with Al Jazeera is in-line with Starwoods global broadcast strategy to enlarge the companys current portfolio of news channels and broadcast networks.

Its fantastic that our channels are available to guests in the comfort of the high quality hotels of Starwood. Al Jazeera Arabic has been the most-watched news channel in the Middle East since its inception, and plays a vital role as the first independent outlet in the region. Al Jazeera English leverages more than eighty bureaus to tell the stories of people worldwide and is indispensable for globally connected travelers. said Ehab Sahawneh, Executive Director of Marketing and Distribution, Al Jazeera Media Network.

Al Jazeera Media Network is headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Initially launched as an Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel in 1996, Al Jazeeras popularity meant it quickly expanded into a network with several outlets, including internet and specialty TV channels in multiple languages.
