Gulf logistics and supply chain solutions provider Starlinks has selected Swisslog to deliver a major warehouse automation programme for a new aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Saudi Arabia.
The programme is part of a broader supply chain solution being delivered by Starlinks for a leading aviation company in the Middle East. The new facility is being developed in one of the region’s key aviation hubs to support rising demand for aircraft maintenance services and spare parts logistics in Saudi Arabia and across the wider Middle East.
Automation to support aviation supply chains
The facility is expected to support the growing logistics requirements associated with airline fleet expansion and increased passenger and cargo capacity.
As aviation operations scale up, supply chains need to handle larger volumes of materials while maintaining quick access to critical aircraft components. Starlinks is responsible for the overall supply chain solution, covering supply chain design, automation planning and operational implementation.
Swisslog will provide the warehouse automation systems and software supporting inventory storage, material handling and distribution across the facility.
AutoStore and pallet automation
The integrated programme will combine a high-density AutoStore system with pallet automation and Swisslog’s SynQ software platform. The technologies are designed to manage both small parts and palletised inventory through a coordinated material flow.
The AutoStore system will provide high-density storage for MRO spare parts. Its modular grid uses stacked bins, with robots operating on top of the grid to retrieve items. The configuration is designed to maximise warehouse space while supporting accurate and efficient handling of critical components.
The pallet automation system will include a pallet automated storage and retrieval system using Swisslog Vectura stacker cranes, along with ProMove pallet conveyors, a pallet shuttle car, inbound transport systems and picking stations.
Together, the systems will connect receiving, inspection, storage and order fulfilment processes across the facility.
The combined automation infrastructure is intended to provide the capacity and flexibility required to accommodate future growth in aviation materials and spare parts operations.
Supporting Saudi Arabia’s aviation ambitions
Alexander Komianos, Managing Director UAE & Solutions at Starlinks, said the investment reflects the growing need for scalable supply chain infrastructure as Saudi Arabia expands its aviation, logistics and industrial capabilities.

Rami Younes, General Manager of Swisslog Middle East, said the combination of AutoStore, pallet automation and SynQ software would support inventory availability, space efficiency and reliable material movement.
The programme comes as Saudi Arabia continues to develop its aviation and logistics infrastructure, with automation playing an increasing role in managing complex supply chains and supporting the sector’s expansion.
The collaboration between Starlinks and Swisslog is expected to provide the new MRO facility with an automated logistics infrastructure capable of supporting current requirements while allowing for future operational growth.
