The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) recently held the annual legislative audit meeting entitled Legislative Compliance is a Government Objective. The conference was attended by representatives from 39 Dubai Government entities. The conference attendees confirmed their continual support for the SLCs endeavours to confirm legislative compliance, in line with the objectives of the Dubai Plan 2021, namely, to create a leading government that ensures fair and reliable execution of legislation while safeguarding the rights of all members of society.

His Excellency Ahmad Bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General revealed the legislative audit plan for government entities for 2019. Al Muhairi expressed confidence in the SLCs readiness to implement the plan utilising the tools of digital transformation. The SLC has already launched the Legislative Audit System (LAS) during GITEX 2018 in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Legislation Committee. The LAS is a smart electronic platform which will ensure effective implementation of legislation by the government entities in many vital sectors in Dubai.

Bin Meshar said: The annual conference is an important platform through which we seek to concert and coordinate efforts with the concerned government entities in the Emirate of Dubai to advance the legislative system that supports the endeavours aimed at building a model government that serves the people and strives for their happiness. During the last conference, a detailed presentation was delivered on the role of audit in ensuring proper implementation of legislation by local government entities, in line with one of Dubai Plan 2021s main themes, namely: An Excellent and Pioneering Government, with a view to achieving the ultimate goal of becoming: Transparent and Reliable. Al Muhairi reaffirmed: We are determined to continue making achievements in ensuring full legislative compliance by the Dubai Government entities through the Legislative Audit Plan 2019, which will undoubtedly be an advanced step in enhancing the effectiveness of local legislation by ensuring its proper implementation.
