GEMS Education parents who effectively applied for the COVID-19 Relief Package have to date received reductions on the current term’s fees ranging from 25 per cent all the way up to 100 per cent in cases of intense hardship. More than 26,000 students throughout the GEMS network are set to gain from the economic assistance designed to support families that have been adversely impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak, with the average school fee reduction provided presently standing at 33 per cent.
All GEMS parents who have experienced a discount in earnings as a consequence of the Covid-19 outbreak, and who now have restricted means to settle tuition fees, had been invited to apply for the Relief Package, with thousands applying in just a matter of days. Applications will proceed to be processed moving forward, providing ongoing safety to those parents who go through job losses, reduced pay or business disruption.
Dino Varkey, Chief Executive Officer at GEMS Education, said: “We are dedicated to aiding our parents in the course of these difficult times and to persevering with to pay our teachers and academic workforce in full. Our means-tested, focused approach to offering economic support allows us to fulfil both of these commitments, and we firmly trust that we have struck the right balance between the two.
“We are honoured to be able to support so many parents, students and families in this way and make a genuine, significant difference. GEMS has always sought to provide help wherever possible, mirrored in the thousands of school and university scholarships provided to GEMS students every year. We will continue to do so, no matter what the challenges and adversities that come our way.”
GEMS schools have been working tirelessly to deliver the absolute best quality remote learning plans since schools in the UAE acquired the government directive to close in response to the Coronavirus outbreak. To date, GEMS schools have delivered in excess of 8.7 million collective online learning sessions.
