Samra Bolsters Water Security in Jordan with Infor EAM
Infor today announced that Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant, Jordans largest wastewater processing facility, has changed the execution of its services, reducing its subsistence budgets and helping protect Jordans scarce water resources by deploying Infor EAM.
Samra, which serves Amman and the adjoining city of Zarq, began in 2006 and now helps some 5 million people. The plant can treat 370,000 cubic metres of wastewater every day and is currently operating at almost 92% capacity. While the plant will experience an extension to expand capacity by 30% starting next year, the directors also acknowledged the need for continuous development to guarantee the plant works at maximum efficiency.
The directors agreed that asset management was one of the main areas for possible improvement. Indeed, Samras performance relies on hundreds of thousands of assets, from channels and draws to site buildings and moveable equipment, worth millions of dollars. The facility also produces 90% of its energy from water turbines and biogas generators, whose assets are expensive and essential to the daily performance of the plant.
To enhance the management of these assets, Samra chose to connect Infor EAM, with Infors partner Intertec Systems using the solution. The first phase of the deployment included more than 4,000 assets.
This permitted Samra to fully automate its asset resources, including daily programs for the support team to inform professionals which assets to proactively check, replace, renew or return across Samras four locations.
Samra had already reached a high level of job continuity by extending Infor EAM, which served it gain its ISO55000 certification and set it in a powerful position when COVID-19 hit. During the height of the pandemic crisis, Samra operated the plant with about 50% of its normal on-site workforce, with further restrictions on staff movement and equipment entering the site. Infor EAM was used to generate all work orders and prioritise work and mission-critical orders. It helped the company to follow fundamental stock movements and to prioritise the most significant purchases during the crisis and recovery period.
Anas Al-Momani, asset division manager (maintenance manager) at Samra, said: By automating our asset support, our 60-strong maintenance team now works proactively, saving hundreds of work hours and assuring that assets are examined, repaired and repaired at the right time before possible problems have a chance to appear. This has helped us decrease our maintenance costs while also improving the overall equipment run at a higher level of performance, which means the plant is more effective at treating water.
Khaled AlShami, Infor director of solution consulting, Middle East & Africa, said: Infor EAM has given Samra clear clarity of its assets, empowering it to digitise and automate its maintenance function and the results in terms of performance and cost savings are clear. Asset management is vital for all organisations, but the benefits are especially keenly felt by utilities such as Samra.
Looking ahead, Samra continues to develop its use of Infor EAM, tallying more assets to the system and expanding the scope of the solution. The organisation confirmed that all assets deployed as part of the expansion in 2021-2024 will also be added to the system.
