Ministry of Health & Prevention launches Harvard Diabetes Management Program

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has introduced the Harvard Diabetes Management Program, in cooperation with AstraZeneca as part of the Circle of Care initiative and the Hope Project released previously in 2016, in cooperation with the Emirates Diabetes Society. The program was presented in the presence of Dr. Buthaina Abdullah bin Balila, President of the Non-Communicable Diseases Division Department, the directors and heads of departments in the Industry, and participants of the Diabetes mellitus Committee with Dr. Enrique Capellero.

The program looks to train family practitioner and general practitioners of primary health care, where the first batch, including 20 family doctors from the Ministry were enrolled in the six-month educational program, consisting of numerous distance finding out programs. The Treatment Circle program uses a primary approach to diabetes therapy using fully-customized educational devices and training targeting all the society including citizens and residents, taking into consideration the diversity among cultures, beliefs and backgrounds that affect the way of life of diabetes type 2.

H.E. Dr. Hussein Abdel Rahman Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Clinics and Centers, emphasized the dedication of the Ministry to decrease the frequency of diabetes in the country from 19.3 percent in 2015 to 16.28 per cent by 2021 as it is one of the health goals of the National Schedule 2021 and comes in line with the Ministry's technique to give thorough and incorporated healthcare in innovative and lasting ways to ensure community defense against disease. He included that the Ministry has established plans, programs and calculated collaborations to protect the community and attain the nation's targets, consisting of the promotion of continuing clinical education for medical professionals with the launch of the Harvard Diabetes Management Program.

Dr. Buthaina Abdullah bin Balila, has described that this program comes as part of the Continuing Medical Education part of the Circle of Treatment Program. The ministry has released in cooperation with AstraZeneca, the Harvard Diabetes Mellitus Monitoring Program, which aims to improve and upgrade the knowledge, competencies and skills of general practitioners and primary care doctors to design ideal treatment plans for individuals with diabetic issues of kind 2 and meeting the needs of diabetic patients.
