MD & CEO of DEWA receives Canadian Consul General

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received at his office Ross Miller, Consul General of Canada to Dubai, and Vicky Sharpe, President and CEO of Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

The visit is part of DEWAs efforts to enhance collaboration and joint work with various organisations nationally, regionally, and globally.

The meeting was attended by DEWA officials including Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Waleed Salman, EVp of Strategy and Business Development, Ahmed Abdulla, Senior Manager of External Communications, and Arif Julfar, Media and Marketing Manager.

Al Tayer welcomed the Consul General and said the meeting is an important opportunity to exchange views and expertise. He highlighted the importance of boosting cooperation between DEWA and specialised Canadian companies working in the clean energy, sustainability, and green technology sectors.

The meeting discussed the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote green economy and achieve sustainable development in the UAE, said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWAs strategic projects and initiatives which aim to enhance Dubais infrastructure, boost sustainability, and promote the Emirate as a global hub for finance, business, tourism, and green economy.

Al Tayer discussed and outlined DEWA's strategic infrastructure and sustainability projects to achieve sustainable development for the UAE. He also talked about enhancing Dubai's position as an international centre for trade, finance, tourism and a green economy. Discussions also included the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is planned to have a production capacity of 1,000MW by 2030 to generate 5% Dubai's total power output by then. He invited Canadian companies to participate in the tender for the second phase of the Solar Park tender and the green building tender.

Al Tayer also invited the Canadian companies and organisations to take part in the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2014) which will be held on 14-16 April, 2014 under the theme At the Forefront of Sustainability in conjunction with the World Green Economy Summit 2014, whose theme is Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future. Both events are organised by DEWA under the umbrella of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.

The delegation provided an overview on the specialised Canadian companies working in the energy and green technology sectors and highlighted the cutting-edge technologies adopted in these companies.

The Canadian delegation thanked HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer for the warm reception and for the opportunity to exchange knowledge and collaboration opportunities.
