LuLu Group launches major solar project in Dubai equivalent to planting 400,000 trees
LuLu Group, one of the region’s leading retail giants, has launched a landmark solar initiative in partnership with Positive Zero, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero vision.
The project, rolled out across five key LuLu facilities in Dubai, includes solar rooftop installations at LuLu Hypermarkets in Al Warqa, Rashidiya, and Dubai Investments Park (DIP), along with the Group’s Central Logistics hub in DIP and its Regional Office in Al Qusais. The new solar operation went live with an inauguration ceremony at the Regional Office rooftop, with additional sites set to follow between September and November.
Once fully operational, the installations will represent one of the most ambitious renewable energy deployments in the UAE retail sector. The solar plants are expected to generate over 37 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy during the lease period, preventing more than 25,000 metric tons of carbon emissions. The environmental impact equates to powering 5,200 homes for a year, charging two billion smartphones, or planting more than 400,000 trees over a decade.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations. As a homegrown brand in the UAE, we are proud to align our efforts with the country’s national goals for a greener future. This solar initiative is a meaningful step in reducing our environmental footprint while embracing innovation in energy efficiency,” said Salim M.A, Director of LuLu Global Operations.
Positive Zero, which has partnered with LuLu Group since 2020, is delivering a turnkey solution including the build, installation, and maintenance of the solar systems. More projects are planned before the end of the year.
“There is huge potential to deploy clean energy in the retail sector, and LuLu Group has once again demonstrated its commitment by implementing tangible solutions aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050,” said David Auriau, CEO of Positive Zero. “Beyond environmental benefits, these efforts are already delivering operating cost reductions and setting the stage for a faster, more profitable energy transition.”
By embracing solar energy, LuLu Group is not only reducing emissions and costs but also positioning itself among the region’s sustainability leaders, setting a benchmark for how the retail sector can contribute to the UAE’s clean energy future.
