KFSHRC Accelerates Smart Hospital Revolution with AI, Robotics, and Immersive Technologies
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre sets new benchmarks in global digital healthcare innovation
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) is redefining the future of healthcare with its pioneering Smart Hospital initiative, integrating AI, simulation, robotics, and immersive technologies to improve clinical care, workforce development, and operational efficiency.
Led by its Academic & Training Affairs (ATA) division, KFSHRC has embedded state-of-the-art tools like simulation labs, virtual reality (VR), and e-learning modules across departments. This immersive training environment equips healthcare professionals with hands-on experience in complex medical procedures, from surgical planning to emergency care, bolstering clinical preparedness and patient safety.
AI-Driven Operational Efficiency
Central to the hospital’s smart transformation is the Patient Flow & Capacity Command Centre, a hub that leverages AI to monitor patient movement, forecast demand, and allocate resources in real time. Since its launch, the Centre has executed over 170,000 strategic interventions, slashing bed wait times from 32 to 6 hours and reducing emergency department delays by 14%. In 2024 alone, KFSHRC welcomed over 46,000 new patients and processed more than 79,000 referrals.
Enhancing this innovation is Noor, a smart robot that provides real-time guidance and support to patients, improving service accessibility and enriching the hospital experience.
AI Across Specialties
From Radiology and Pathology to Oncology and Genomics, AI is transforming diagnostic accuracy, treatment planning, and personalized care. These advancements are driven by the Centre for Healthcare Intelligence (CHI), which has created more than 20 AI applications to support imaging diagnostics, clinical decision-making, and hospital operations.
At the 2024 GAIN Summit, CHI introduced a groundbreaking generative AI platform that synthesizes patient data, streamlines triage, and accelerates diagnostics, offering clinicians faster insights for critical decision-making.
In collaboration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, CHI also spearheads national training programs to nurture the next generation of digital health professionals and AI innovators.
