HE Dr. Anwar Gargash to address 4th Forum for Building Political Awareness for Students at the UAE University
The United Arab Emirates University will host the Fourth Forum for Building Political Awareness for Students on Wednesday, 16 September, as part of the concerted efforts to raise awareness and a culture of active participation across all segments of Emirati society in the 2015 Federal National Council (FNC) Elections. The event is organised in partnership with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, the National Election Committee (NEC) and the UAE University.
His Excellency Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC), will address students at one of the main sessions of the Forum that will discuss the 2015 FNC Elections and political participation. The event will be attended by the UAE University Chairman and a large number of students and faculty members.
His Excellency Tarik Hilal Lootah, Under-Secretary of Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Head of the Elections Management Committee, said that the Forum aims to reinforce and strengthen the awareness levels university students on the electoral process. It aims to promote the active participation of all segments of the Emirati society as part of their national duty to support the FNC empowerment programme. This further cements the Councils role in pursuing and discussing various matters that concern all citizens.
His Excellency said that university students are the nations future and the concept of political participation must be strengthened among them given the important role that youth play in shaping the countrys future.
His Excellency Lootah added: The Forum aspires to build a political culture among students by acquainting them with all dimensions of the political process especially as the 2015 FNC Election approaches. It reaffirms that the electoral process will be enhanced through youth participation and offers them the opportunity to express their opinions by selecting candidates who they feel can achieve their aspirations effectively.
His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashed Al Nuaimi, Dean of UAE University, said that effective cooperation between the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, the NEC and the UAE University resulted in three successful sessions that all aimed at promoting positive political awareness among university students and supporting political empowerment in the country.
He added: The Fourth Forum on Political Awareness will witness greater number of participants and an advanced intellectual platform. This complements the current situation with Emiratis displaying their loyalty to their country and wise leadership, which is evident in the sacrifices that have been made to protect the UAE and its accomplishments.
Dr. Mohammed bin Huwaiden, Head of the Department of Political Science at UAE University, added: This seminar comes in the context of the exceptional situation that we are witnessing, which is embodied in the deep feelings of love and loyalty to both the country and its wise leadership. The Forum strives to reinforce these feelings by promoting robust national political awareness about all the internal and external aspects that are important to the UAE.
The UAE University hosts the Forum on an annual basis in light of the importance it places on contributing to a wide range of fields and areas, in addition to its emphasis on developing productive local partnerships that play a role in the transfer of knowledge and skills for the greater benefit of the society.
