Guinness world Record 56kg gold ring to go on display in Sharjah

56kg gold ring worth over Dh2 million is set to turn heads when the 39th MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show gets underway at Sharjahs Expo Centre from October 6.

Officially the worlds heaviest ring, the Najmat Taiba or Star of Taiba is just 314g shy of 57 kilos in weight and is studded with 5.17 kg of Swarovski stones. Endorsed by the World Gold Council, the ring made by Taiba Gold & Jewellery of Saudi Arabia also has a certificate from the Guinness Book of Records certifying its weight in gold. It was worth $550,000 (Dh2.01 million) when the gold price was $250 (Dh918) per ounce in 2000 when it was created. Today its value has multiplied several times with gold trading near $1,150 (Dh4,223) and I am sure the ring will generate tremendous buzz among visitors to the show, said Saif Mohammad Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah, ahead of the exhibition.

Najmat Taiba has a perimeter of 2,200mm, 700mm outer perimeter, 490mm inside diameter, 500mm width of the back of the ring, 250mm width of the ring bottom. Fifty-five workers worked 45 days for 10 hours a day to make this piece. It is diamonds that usually capture the attention, but Najmat Taiba has become the centre of attraction -- of jewellers and jewellery lovers alike. To make their visit memorable, we are offering visitors a chance to take a selfie with the ring, said Mr. Midfa.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show will feature 500 exhibitors and brands across 30,000 square metres of exhibition space in all six halls of Expo Centre Sharjah, but no doubt all the glitter at the event will be from Najmat Taiba.
