GETS 2025 Concludes in Abu Dhabi, Ushering in a New Era for Global Technology Governance

The Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) wrapped up this week in Abu Dhabi, marking a pivotal moment in the global discourse on technology governance. Organized by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in strategic partnership with the UAE Public Prosecution, the two-day event attracted more than 2,000 participants from over 20 countries, including ministers, attorney generals, technology leaders, legal experts, and youth representatives.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Chairman of the Presidential Court, GETS 2025 served as a high-level forum exploring the intersection of innovation, legal integrity, and international public policy. With over 70 influential speakers, the summit emphasized the importance of aligning rapidly evolving technologies with ethical frameworks and globally coherent governance models.

A cornerstone of the event was the launch of the UAE Public Prosecution’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, which sets a visionary course for incorporating AI into the nation's judicial system. This strategy aims to enhance efficiency, reduce case processing times, and build a legal framework capable of proactively addressing emerging challenges while preserving transparency and public trust.

Commenting on the initiative, His Excellency Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General of the UAE, stated: “The strategy we launched is a statement of intent. We are ready to harness AI in service of justice, built on transparency, efficiency, and ethics.”

HE Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs and Secretary General of ATRC, highlighted the summit’s role in shaping the future: “GETS 2025 reflects the UAE’s ambition to not only lead in advanced technologies, but to shape how they are governed.”

The summit’s agenda spanned a wide range of timely topics, including AI regulation, quantum computing, digital identity, synthetic media and deepfakes, healthcare innovation, education reform, cybersecurity, and the use of autonomous systems in civil defence.

Youth participation also played a key role, with contributions from youth councils across Dubai, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Al Dhafra, offering fresh perspectives on AI literacy and the importance of inclusive policymaking.

Additionally, GETS 2025 featured the signing of two strategic cooperation agreements: one between TRENDS Research & Advisory and ExHub, and another between the UAE Public Prosecution and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). These partnerships underscore a growing commitment to collaboration in research, innovation, and legal transformation.

Prominent speakers included:

  • HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications

  • HE Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education

  • HE Maryam bint Ahmed Al Hammadi, UAE Minister of State and Secretary General of the UAE Cabinet

  • Changpeng Zhao, Founder of Binance

  • Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO, Technology Innovation Institute

  • HE Judge Dr. Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Head of Sharjah Judicial Department
