Fujairah Hospital Performs Groundbreaking Knee Surgery on 40-Year-Old Person of Determination
Fujairah Hospital, a leading facility under Emirates Health Services (EHS), has achieved a groundbreaking medical milestone by successfully performing a complex knee surgery. This innovative operation marks the first of its kind in the UAE and was carried out on a 40-year-old person of determination suffering from a displaced patella fracture in the right knee, which had rendered the patient unable to lift the injured leg.
The operation was further complicated by the patient's pre-existing conditions, including cardiomyopathy and congenital limb atrophy, resulting from muscle mass deficiency and low bone density. Despite these challenges, the surgical team demonstrated exceptional expertise and successfully restored the patient’s mobility.

The pioneering surgery utilized a specialized plate with a screw-locking mechanism, a first-of-its-kind technique in the UAE. This advanced technology ensures stable fixation of fractured bones, particularly beneficial for patients with osteoporosis or low bone density, as it reduces the risk of implant failure.
Dr. Amal Al Muaini, Assistant Director for Medical Affairs at Fujairah Hospital, confirmed the operation’s success and noted the patient’s excellent recovery. The patient has since been discharged in good health.
