What warning has Dubai Police issued about online begging scams during Ramadan 2026?

The Dubai Police have cautioned residents against falling for online begging scams that typically surge during Ramadan. The Anti-Cybercrime Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation explained that fraudsters and organised beggars exploit the month’s charitable spirit by circulating fake donation appeals via social media and websites to collect money illegally. Authorities reminded the public that online begging is a criminal offence under UAE law, punishable by up to three months in jail and a fine of no less than Dh10,000. Residents are urged to donate only through officially licensed charitable organisations and report any suspicious messages or accounts through Dubai Police’s eCrime platform or the Dubai Police app.
