Dubai’s comprehensive ban on single-use plastics, effective January 1, 2025, prohibits six key items: Styrofoam cups, plastic cotton swabs, plastic table covers, plastic straws, Styrofoam takeaway containers, and plastic stirrers. This initiative, part of the UAE’s environmental laws, aims to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainability. Local businesses are required to stop distributing these items and offer sustainable alternatives, while residents are encouraged to use reusable containers and support eco-friendly practices. The ban will extend in 2026 to include more plastic items such as cups, lids, cutlery, and plates.
