Moving to Dubai for work? How can you confirm if your job offer is real—and what should expats do if it’s not?

If you’ve received a job offer from a UAE employer, it’s important to know that a signed offer letter is not a legally binding employment contract unless it's registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). UAE law requires that offer letters conform to MoHRE-prescribed formats and be part of the formal work permit process. Until your work permit is issued and a MoHRE-approved employment contract is signed, the job offer isn’t enforceable under UAE labor law. To verify the legitimacy of your offer, you can: Contact MoHRE directly with the details of the employer and offer. Request a MoHRE-compliant offer letter from the employer. Reach out to the UAE Embassy in your country for further guidance. If the offer is withdrawn before a contract is signed, you can’t file a MoHRE complaint, but you may pursue a civil case for damages through UAE courts. Have you or someone you know encountered suspicious job offers when planning to work abroad? What steps would you take to avoid employment scams?
