Intercepts over Dubai on a Ramadan evening: What I saw Explosions from the interception of an Iranian projectile are seen in the sky over Dubai on March 1 Explosions from the interception of an Iranian projectile are seen in the sky over Dubai on Mar

In a first-hand account by Mazhar Farooqui, the evening of March 1 began like any other Ramadan night in Dubai—until distant booms echoed across Business Bay. At first, he thought it was construction noise, but soon messages flooded in mentioning drones and missiles. Despite the uncertainty, he and his family decided to continue with their plans for iftar in Mudon. The city seemed calm—traffic moved steadily, restaurants were busy, and life carried on as usual. During iftar, conversation turned silent when a bright streak lit up the sky followed by a low thud—an interception of an Iranian projectile. “Intercepts at work,” someone remarked over tea. The moment was surreal yet composed, reflecting Dubai’s characteristic calm even amid global tension, as residents balanced normalcy with awareness of the events unfolding above.
