Do you need a real estate agent to rent out your home in Dubai, and what are a landlord’s rights and responsibilities?

In Dubai, it is not mandatory to use a real estate agent to rent out your property—owners can legally lease their homes directly once ownership is registered with the Dubai Land Department, as long as a written lease contract is in place and registered with Rera to be valid. If an agent is used, they must be Rera-licensed. Landlords are required to hand over the property in good condition, carry out maintenance and repairs affecting the tenant’s use (unless agreed otherwise), and avoid making changes that interfere with the tenant’s enjoyment of the home. The lease must clearly state rent, payment terms, duration, and property details. Do you think renting directly without an agent is practical in Dubai, or do agents still play an essential role in protecting both landlords and tenants?
