Yes — but not automatically. Under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, which came into effect on January 1, 2025, some holidays such as New Year’s Day, Hijri New Year, Prophet’s Birthday, Arafat Day, and UAE National Day can be moved to the start or end of the week to create longer weekends. However, this only happens if the UAE Cabinet issues an official decision each year confirming the shift. Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha are exceptions and cannot be moved due to their religious significance. So, while residents might get extended breaks depending on the Cabinet’s decision, employers must wait for the official annual holiday list before making changes. What do you think — should all holidays be automatically shifted to allow for longer weekends in the UAE?
