FIA President highlights Asia-Pacific’s role in the future of motor sport and mobility

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has highlighted the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region to the future of motor sport and mobility ahead of the FIA Asia Pacific Congress in Boracay, the Philippines, next week.

Hosted by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), the annual congress will bring together around 120 delegates from FIA Member Clubs across Asia and the Pacific for three days of discussions, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The event will focus on priorities including road safety, sustainable mobility, innovation and greater accessibility to motor sport.

Focus on safer and more accessible mobility

The Asia-Pacific region includes some of the world’s fastest-growing mobility markets and a diverse motor sport community. The congress will provide FIA Member Clubs with an opportunity to exchange experience and develop solutions tailored to the needs of road users and communities across the region.

Mobility discussions will cover road safety, sustainable and accessible transport, innovation, tourism and changing patterns of road use. The sessions will also build on the FIA’s efforts to support its Member Clubs in delivering road safety and mobility initiatives at national and regional levels.

Ben Sulayem said the region was central to the future of both mobility and motor sport, while highlighting the role of FIA Member Clubs in addressing road safety and creating opportunities for motor sport participation.

“The FIA Asia Pacific Congress gives us an important opportunity to bring that expertise together, share ideas and strengthen collaboration across one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in our Federation,” he said.

Expanding access to motor sport

Motor sport sessions at the congress will examine ways to increase participation, strengthen grassroots competition and develop more accessible pathways into the sport.

The programme will also highlight initiatives led by FIA Member Clubs across the region, allowing successful approaches to be shared and potentially adapted elsewhere.

The focus forms part of the FIA’s broader objective of making motor sport more accessible and affordable while supporting participation at different levels of competition.

Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria, FIA Region II President and president of the Automobile Association Philippines, said bringing Member Clubs together in the Philippines would allow participants to identify common challenges and share practical solutions.

“The Asia Pacific Congress is an important moment for us to build on the progress already being made and ensure our Clubs have the tools, knowledge and connections they need to continue growing,” he said.

FIA expands regional road safety initiatives

The congress follows increased FIA activity across the Asia-Pacific region, including the expansion of the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme.

The initiative supports FIA Member Clubs and authorities through training and practical tools aimed at improving road safety. The FIA Innovation Challenge is also providing a platform for Club-led solutions that can be shared and developed across the wider federation.

The region remains significant to motor sport at multiple levels, from grassroots participation and regional championships to major FIA World Championships.

The FIA Asia Pacific Congress will take place in Boracay following the annual gathering of Member Clubs, with the programme providing a platform for regional organisations to discuss mobility priorities and opportunities for motor sport development.
