Etihad Rail and Keolis form joint venture to launch UAE passenger rail services in 2026
Etihad Rail, developer and operator of the UAE’s National Railway Network, has signed a landmark joint venture agreement with global passenger transport leader Keolis to launch the country’s first passenger rail services. The announcement was made at Global Rail 2025 in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail.
The collaboration combines Etihad Rail’s advanced infrastructure with Keolis’ international expertise in managing passenger networks across 13 countries. Passenger services are set to commence in 2026, marking a historic milestone in the UAE’s transport sector and advancing the nation’s vision for sustainable, modern, and customer-focused rail travel.
Azza Alsuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said the joint venture represents “a bold step forward” in redefining mobility in the UAE. “By partnering with Keolis, we are enhancing our operational readiness with the highest levels of efficiency and safety. This partnership is not only about railways; it is about shaping the future of transport in the UAE,” she added.
