Eid Al Adha Getaway: UAE Expats Flock to Jebel Jais for Cooler Air and Scenic Reset

As UAE residents prepare for the upcoming Eid Al Adha long weekend, many are choosing Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah as a spontaneous escape from the heat and bustle of city life. The country’s highest peak, known for its panoramic mountain views and temperatures that are 10°C cooler than in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, is emerging as a go-to destination for a refreshing short break.

With temperatures ranging from 23°C to 30°C, the mountain provides a rare, natural retreat during the UAE summer. Visitors are drawn by the cool breeze, peaceful surroundings, and scenic drives—a sharp contrast to the urban heat and crowds.

Unplanned but Memorable Escapes

Many residents say their visits were impromptu decisions that turned into memorable moments.

Shadab Mannar, a digital marketing executive from Al Nahda, shared how he ended up at Jebel Jais after a casual drive. “We didn’t plan anything—we just needed a break. As we climbed higher, it felt like we had left the summer behind,” he said. “We stayed until 9.30 pm, soaking in the cool, calm atmosphere. It was so peaceful.”

Inspired by his experience, Shadab is planning a return trip with cousins and friends during the Eid holiday. “It’s the perfect spot to disconnect and enjoy nature,” he added.

Similarly, Maria Fernandes, a PR executive in Dubai, visited the mountain on a whim with visiting relatives. “We were just out for ice cream, then ended up tagging along with a friend going to Ras Al Khaimah,” she explained. “The weather changed dramatically once we hit the mountain roads. We stopped for a picnic—it was the reset we didn’t know we needed.”

Family-Friendly Outdoor Alternative

For families, Jebel Jais offers an appealing alternative to the usual mall outings and indoor play zones. Zubair Ahmed, a father of three from Abu Dhabi, is planning a post-lunch trip to the peak following Eid celebrations in Dubai.

“Normally we stay indoors because of the heat,” he said. “But this year, I wanted something different. Friends told me it’s much cooler up there, and I’m looking forward to a quiet evening with the kids, surrounded by mountains and fresh air.”

Whether it’s a last-minute plan or a purposeful family outing, Jebel Jais is fast becoming the preferred Eid Al Adha escape, offering UAE residents a taste of tranquility just a short drive away.
