The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, has launched a campaign to name the 155-million year old female dinosaur exhibit newly unveiled at the mall.
Reaching out as fans and followers across the various social media platforms of Emaar Properties, suggestions can be posted online using the hashtag #NameTDMDino.
The winner of the competition will be selected by a committee of scientists, experts, and senior management of Emaar, in line with set corporate and cultural guidelines.
The grand winner of the competition, which will be announced on The Dubai Mall’s social media platforms, will stand to win a five days/six nights trip for four (two adults and two children under the age of 12) to ‘Jurassic Park’ in Universal Studios, in Orlando, United States, inclusive of flights, accommodation, and tickets to the attraction.
The 24.4 metres long and 7.6 metres tall exhibit of the prehistoric dinosaur is open for free viewing for the public in the Grand Atrium of the mall. The exhibit is the only one-of-its kind in the world and is mounted in an upright position. It has unmatched completeness, consistency, and is highly rated in scientific integrity and preservation.
Visitors can learn more about the Late Jurassic Period dinosaur, Diplodocus longus, from a dedicated team on-site.
Nearly 90 per cent of the fossil’s bones are original. This skeleton characteristic is very unique in the history of paleontology, given that the most original Diplodocus longus skeleton finding, prior to this, had only 30 per cent of original bones from the overall found structure.
Discovered in 2008 at the Dana Quarry, near the quaint town of Ten Sleep in north central Wyoming, the specimen represents a female adult, and was found in the sleeping position.
The competition to #NameTDMDino is open until March 31, 2014. Suggestions are limited to three names per entry and one entry per person.
