Dubai Ladies Club highlights importance of Womens Health during 5th Annual Wellness Day

On Saturday, over 800 ladies celebrated International Womens Day at Dubai Ladies Club during the 5th annual Wellness Day event that drew attention to womens health for a productive and happy life. Among the many attendees were notable ladies from the local community including H.E Afra Al Basti, Executive Director of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children; Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment; and Lamia Abdulaziz Khan, Director of Dubai Ladies Club and Maryam Bin Thaneya, Director of Communications at Dubai Foundation for Women and Children. The Gold Sponsors for the event were Cadillac Motors, Silver Sponsors were Kind Care Medical Center and Danone as sponsors of the Kids Wellness Zone.

This event was free for Dubai Ladies Club members, with non-members paying a nominal ticket fee of AED 50. Proceeds from all ticket sales benefited Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC).
Dubai Ladies Clubs annual Wellness Day is a unique concept selectively combining fun and health awareness to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. This year's program showcased a variety of attractions such as outdoor fitness classes, healthy snacks and refreshment choices, healthy cooking demonstrations for kids, complimentary health screenings and onsite doctors consultations, outdoor wall climbing, beach massages by Al Asalla Spa, Kids Wellness Zone and much more.

On the occasion, Lamia Abdulaziz Khan, Director of Dubai Ladies Club said: "Our annual Wellness Day event has always served as an important day for ladies from our Club and the community to commit to a healthier and more active lifestyle. And we are delighted to see that many women taking these first steps towards good health for themselves and their families by attending Wellness Day 2014."

She continued, "As one of the leading women's clubs in the region, International Women's Day has always been a momentous date in our calendar, and our intention was to use the significance of this day to highlight the importance of women's health that not only affects the quality of their own lives but is also the creates the foundations for a healthy family and most importantly the next generations for children. In line with this objective, we tried to create a day which encompassed every aspect of healthy living, from mental and physical fitness to the importance of healthy and organic food."

During the day, ladies were also able to take advantage of the large selection of free comprehensive health risk assessments and screenings by prominent medical institutes; such as Kind Care Medical Center, Canadian Specialist Hospital, International Modern Hospital, Sama Medical Center and more; to help ladies with early detection and disease prevention. Tests examined every aspect of women's health from hair, skin, vision, hearing and dental to diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, spinal and osteoporosis screenings. There were doctors, such as dermatologists, gynaecologists, psychologists and nutritionists, present onsite for complimentary consultations and referrals. A mental health psychiatrist from DFWAC was also available to speak to guests about dealing with personal stress and emotional traumas.

Moreover, a dedicated Kids Wellness Zone educated young children about healthy living and making good food choices through a variety of children-focused activities and services. Activities included a variety of kids fitness classes such as Kids Body Combat and Zumba for Kids to healthy cooking demos, organic seed planting, arts & crafts and clown entertainment.

Meanwhile, Wellness Day offered all guests a variety of healthy food choices from reputed F&B outlets such as Saladicious, NKD Pizza, Comptoir 102, Just Falafel, Melt Frozen Yoghurt, and many more. Ladies also attended special cooking demonstrations on healthy cooking techniques and food tasting sessions. There was special emphasis on sustainable organic & healthy eating, where Greenheart Organic Farms educated guests on the benefits of choosing all-natural, locally-grown and freshly harvested produce to ensure maximum nutritional value.

However, the highlight of the day was the jam-packed fitness schedule that showcased the wide variety fo group fitness classes available at Dubai Ladies Club to suit the tastes of every woman. These classes will include Zumba, Aqua Aerobics, Bootcamp Circuit, Yoga, Pilates as well as a wide variety of meditation classes such as Positive Thinking and Stress Management Seminars.

Since its inception in 2003, Dubai Ladies Club has consistently worked towards improving the quality of life of Emirati and expatriate women living in the UAE through in-house events, facilities and pilot projects. The events span the fields of art, culture, fitness and educational seminars. The primary objective of Wellness Day is to provide all women in Dubai with the opportunity to try new fitness activities, products and health related services entirely cost free, with the view to encourage participation and healthy living on a long term basis.
