Dubai Culture launches dedicated app for Dubai Public Library at GITEX 2014

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirates dedicated governmental entity for promoting heritage, culture and the arts, has launched a smart application dedicated for Dubai Public Library (DPL) at its pavilion at GITEX 2014.

The Dubai Library app underlines the commitment of Dubai Culture to further support the Smart Dubai vision announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the city as the smartest in the world.

The launch of the app closely follows the unveiling of the Dubai Culture app, an Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled mobile application that aims to enrich the cultural experience of Dubai residents and visitors, and the unveiling of the new Dubai Culture website at www.dubaiculture.gov.ae

The beta version of the Dubai Library app is available for free download now on the Google Play store for Android smartphone users and on Apple stores.

With the new App, all services of Dubai Public Library across the Emirate can be accessed over the smartphone. From search information and accessing the electronic database for information on the books available at the libraries to undertaking member services, the Dubai Library app serves as a one-stop referral point.

Moza Suwaidan, Director of Information Technology Department at the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: The new app will further enhance the service standards at Dubai Public Library enabling members and the public to learn more about the treasure trove of books available as well as conduct their various services with efficiency and promptness. Launching the app reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to further enhance the happiness of Dubais residents by strengthening service standards. Our goal is to link the app with the Emirates ID of members thus further strengthening the services provided.

Among the various services that can be facilitated through the app include book lending, ordering books, requesting information on account status and other queries, booking the multipurpose rooms and reading rooms in the Dubai Public Library branches for various functions and making payments including membership fees, late fines, among others.
