CSC launches OT Security First Forum to strengthen UAE critical infrastructure defence

CSC has launched the OT Security First Forum under the patronage of the UAE Cyber Security Council, introducing a dedicated platform focused on strengthening the defence of operational technology (OT) systems that underpin the country’s energy and utilities infrastructure.

Held in Abu Dhabi, the forum convened senior government officials, regulators, chief information security officers (CISOs), and industry experts to address rising cybersecurity risks linked to the growing convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology environments.

Organisers said the rapid pace of digital transformation has reshaped the cyber threat landscape, exposing critical infrastructure systems to more complex and sophisticated attacks. The OT Security First Forum is positioned as a specialised regional platform aligned with national priorities including advanced OT protection, AI-driven threat detection and automation, and the development of a Cyber Centre of Excellence.

Sessions at the forum focused on securing Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA networks, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) environments. Key discussion areas included OT risk management, cyber resilience across energy and utilities sectors, supply chain security, regulatory preparedness, and cross-sector coordination.

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government, said the convergence of IT and OT has dissolved traditional security boundaries and increased the need for integrated protection strategies. He noted that the forum supports the UAE’s broader efforts to define global benchmarks in critical infrastructure defence and strengthen collaboration between government and industry stakeholders.

He added that the initiative aims to accelerate the implementation of AI-enabled security frameworks and unified response models to counter hybrid cyber threats, while ensuring that national energy diversification and smart infrastructure programmes remain secure.

The forum is expected to draw participation from government entities, energy producers, utility providers, infrastructure operators, technology companies, and cybersecurity specialists from across the region. It is supported by industry partners and sponsors including Yokogawa, seclab, and Dragos.
