Canon recognized for CSR efforts in the Middle East

Canon Middle East, a world leader in imaging solutions, has been recognized by three institutions for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the region. The Dubai Chamber has awarded Canon for the third consecutive year with the CSR Label for its efforts in the community, workplace and market. Enterprise Channels MEA named Canon as the 2014 Best Organization for CSR Activities in the Global Enterprise Connect (GEC) Awards for its ongoing community initiatives.

The awards reinforce Canons commitment to incorporating CSR and sustainable initiatives across all aspects of the business. At Canon, the corporate philosophy of kyosei, meaning Living and working together for the common good, underpins the companys business practices, ethics, management philosophy and corporate culture. With this at the heart of the brand, the company has aligned itself to high profile environmental and CSR campaigns that resonate with the companys belief and market leadership. In the Middle East, Canon works extensively with NGOs and local organizations to support the community through three sustainability pillars: Environment, Society and Business.

Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director, Canon Middle East said: We are honoured to be recognised as a leading organization for our CSR activities which are aligned to Canons philosophy of Kyosei. To have these prestigious organisations acknowledge our commitment to the communities we live and work in is a strong source of inspiration to continue our efforts and expand upon them in the region.

At Canon we firmly believe that to successfully move forward sustainability must be at the core of our business. In addition to our ongoing commitment to Dubai Cares, Dubai Autism Centre and the Emirates Environmental Group, Canon engages in activities such as Earth Hour, the Dubai Marathon, GEMS Student Voice Competition to support the local community.

The annual Dubai Chamber CSR Label, presented at a ceremony held at Dubai Chamber headquarters, was awarded for the third consecutive year to Canon Middle East. In addition to its environmental and community activities, the organization was praised for its ability to provide a workplace in which diversity is valued and employees have equal opportunities. Furthermore, Canon supports employees with learning and development opportunities to help them reach their full potential and maximize their contribution to the companys strategy and goals.

At the GEC Awards, Canon was recognized for its wide range of community activities that addressed the environment, healthcare, sports and personal development. The sponsorship of activities such as The Terry Fox Run in Egypt combined a support for athleticism as well as cancer research for Hospital 57357 in Cairo. Additionally, Canon has provided ongoing support to EWS-WWFs conservation efforts in Wadi Wurayah National Park by renewing its gold membership and sourcing equipment for the monitoring of wildlife.

Canons environmental and CSR efforts were also recognized by the Arabia CSR Network where it was named one of the top five medium-sized companies for its efforts. Earlier this year, Canon was awarded as the organization with the Best Environmental Practices in the Arab World by the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility.

Currently, Canon holds the 26th position on the Interbrand Best Global Green Brands list. Canon was also recertified to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard this year.
