The biggest time savings from upcoming passenger services on Etihad Rail are expected on routes where public transport has traditionally been slow or required transfers. On the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route, train travel is expected to take 1 hour 45 minutes, compared with around 2 hours 20–32 minutes by car and more than 5 hours by bus, creating the first direct mass-transit connection between the two cities. For Abu Dhabi–Dubai, rail travel is expected to take 57 minutes once Dubai services begin, offering a more predictable alternative to driving and buses affected by traffic. On Dubai–Fujairah, the train is expected to reduce travel time to 69 minutes, compared with over 90 minutes by car and around 2–3 hours by bus. The overall experience will still depend on the full door-to-door journey, including station access and onward transport, with shuttle buses, taxis, e-hailing and integrated trip planning expected to support first- and last-mile connections.
