Experts say couples frequently focus heavily on the wedding itself, leaving little attention to finances, housing, work responsibilities, or the role of extended family. Differences in nationality, religion, cultural expectations, and relocation pressures further complicate early marriages, especially among internationally mobile couples. Psychological experts note that romanticised expectations, social media influence, and cultural pressures contribute to a mismatch between expectation and reality, making the first year a critical period for marital stability. Pre-marital counselling, they say, is essential rather than optional to help couples navigate these challenges.
