The Roads and Transport Authority has completed a major upgrade of the Hessa Street corridor, reducing travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road from around 15 minutes to just 4 minutes. The 4.5km stretch has been widened to four lanes in each direction, with new bridges, ramps, and improved intersections to ease congestion. The project doubles road capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour, significantly improving traffic flow for residents in areas like Al Barsha, Al Sufouh 2, and Jumeirah Village Circle. With Phase 2 already underway, further reductions in travel time and increased capacity are expected, supporting Dubai’s growing population and urban expansion. Do you think such infrastructure upgrades are enough to solve traffic issues long-term, or will demand keep catching up?
