Dubai Metro to Etihad Rail: New Pedestrian Bridge Cuts Transfer Time to 5–7 Minutes

Passengers travelling between Dubai Metro and Etihad Rail can now make the transfer on foot following the opening of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station with Dubai Al Yalayis Station.

The bridge, which opened on Thursday, October 15, provides passengers on the Dubai Metro Red Line with a direct, covered route to Etihad Rail services connecting Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The transfer takes approximately five to seven minutes, eliminating the need to arrange a taxi or travel outdoors between the two stations.

Covered Walkway Connects Metro and Etihad Rail

Passengers can access the pedestrian bridge through Exit 1 or Exit 2 at Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station. Directional signs guide travellers towards Etihad Rail’s Dubai Al Yalayis Passenger Station.

The enclosed walkway features escalators and moving walkways, making the connection more convenient for passengers transferring between the two transport networks.

Previously, passengers travelling between the stations relied on an Etihad Rail shuttle bus operating from beside the Metro station. The new bridge offers an additional option for commuters who prefer to walk rather than wait for or board the shuttle.

Shuttle Bus Service Continues

The opening of the bridge does not mean the shuttle bus service has been discontinued. Passengers can still use the bus, particularly those travelling with luggage, accompanying children or preferring not to walk between the stations.

The existing RTA bus stop outside Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station also remains part of the transport interchange, allowing bus passengers to access the connection to Etihad Rail.

Travellers arriving at Dubai Al Yalayis Station from Abu Dhabi or Fujairah can likewise walk across the bridge to reach the Metro and continue their journeys along the Red Line.

Three Public Transport Modes Connected

The new pedestrian link brings three public transport options together at a single interchange: the Dubai Metro, RTA buses and Etihad Rail.

By providing a direct walking connection, the bridge reduces the need for road-based transfers and creates a more seamless connection between Dubai's urban transport network and the UAE's inter-emirate passenger rail service.

The covered route also allows passengers to avoid crossing surrounding roads or making the transfer outdoors.

Dubai Al Yalayis Station Began Operations in September

Dubai Al Yalayis Station began passenger operations on September 30, 2026, connecting Dubai to Etihad Rail's inter-emirate passenger network.

The pedestrian bridge completes an important part of the connection between the rail station and Dubai Metro, making it easier for passengers to combine inter-emirate train journeys with local public transport.

With the bridge now operational, commuters can leave Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station through Exit 1 or Exit 2, follow the signs and reach Dubai Al Yalayis Station in approximately five to seven minutes without needing a car.
