RTA offers tickets for Al Gaffal Dhow Race 2016

The Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed that tickets would be readily available to community members interested in seeing the standard Dhow race, known as Al Gaffal, on board Dubai Ferry on Saturday, 21 May 2016.

Mansour Rahma Al Falasi, Director of Marine Transport, Public Transport Agency stated: "RTA is constantly keen on participating in a variety of community-oriented social, economic and sports events in general and conventional efforts in particular. These events provide an opportunity to restore our glorious past and reflect the interest paid by our ancestors to aquatic life, in addition to diving and pearling in the Arabian Gulf area.

" Our involvement in Al Gaffal Race for the fourth year in a row is meant to revive this sort of standard marine contests and educate the new generations about the practice. This renowned boat race is intended to showcase sailing boats measuring less than 60 feet in length utilized in fishing and transporting goods. It portrays the history of the UAE and how the life of its people was linked to the sea; which offered them a safe haven and a source of living."
"Individuals thinking about watching Al Gaffal Race 2016 aboard Dubai Ferry can purchase tickets by calling 0562190276, and 04-2331030," explained Al Falasi.

The race is one of the key annual events held and sponsored by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance who presented the concept in 1991. It is a grand conventional race for Emirati sailing boats determining 60 feet in length.
