Medcare hosts the first minimal invasive OLIF surgery in the GCC for the rising issue of back pain

Medcare Hospital has just hosted a minimally-invasive surgical treatment for oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) for the first time in the GCC, giving patients the option of a very little invasive surgery with faster healing. The surgical treatment was brought out by Dr Firas Husban, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, who complied with Medcare as it has the modern center and capability to accommodate the delicate surgical treatment.

Spinal stenosis is the constricting of the spinal canal putting pressure on the nerves, triggering sometimes excruciating discomfort. Some of the most obvious symptoms are persistent disabling lower body pain, failure to stroll for more than around 100 metres or numbness in the legs. Till date the most typical treatment option has been classical open surgical treatment, where soft tissues such as skin, muscles, ligaments, bone and tendons are cut open triggering blood loss. The thought of cutting into the lower back, possible nerve injury and weeks of being strapped to the bed though can heighten patient's medical phobias. Patients often wait long periods of time before acting on the pain.

Fortunately due to considerable investments in advanced technology and medical equipment, very little invasive procedures such as OLIF are now an option.

Dr Firas Husban, remarks that "As a specialist in the spine and a experienced surgeon, my very first task is to guarantee my patient experiences very little discomfort and pain. It is important that we do not hurt the tissue around the back disc, which is normally the case in timeless surgeries. Minimally intrusive procedures such as the OLIF need small cuts, less bleeding and less hospitalization. I highly recommend the treatment, particularly with the increasing cases of spine injuries and problems the area is witnessing."
