Imdaad focuses on environmental sustainability through its deal with Alserkal Groups Blue for management of used cooking oil

As a renewable source of energy and a greener option to petroleum diesel, biofuel considerably decreases the emission of damaging greenhouse gases and particulate emissions that causes air contamination. Considering that it is made from recycled cooking oil, its production guarantees that cooking fat, oil and grease (FOG) waste is diverted from land fills and sewage pipelines to improve the quality of air and water. According to current international statistics, nearly 1 billion gallons of biodiesel is produced per year.

Understanding the value of recycling used cooking oil and its impact in lowering carbon footprints, Imdaad, a leading provider of integrated centers, environment and energy management solutions in the GCC, has worked together with Blue, the brand-new identity of Alserkal Group's Environmental Division, for the management of used cooking oil collection. Jamal Abdullah Lootah, CEO of Imdaad, and Ahmad Bin Eisa Bin Nasser Alserkal, Chairman of Alserkal Group, have signed a contract for the correct collection and recycling of used cooking oil.

Under the scope of the arrangement, Imdaad will pick up used cooking oil from the clients of Alserkal Group, including restaurants and hotels in high end locations in Dubai such as Box Park and Jumeirah Beach Residences, to name a few. The collection and treatment of used cooking oil will assist in curbing the unlawful disposal or sale of organic waste, thereby strengthening the guidelines set by the Dubai Municipality to preserve the environment.

Lootah said: "Imdaad's tactical partnership with Blue comes at an appropriate time when numerous public and private entities are using up recycling of used cooking oil for conversion to biodiesel as a top priority. We are delighted to work together with market leaders such as Alserkal in collecting, transporting and disposing of used cooking oil in line with the greatest international standards to ensure that used cooking oil is neither recycled nor thrown into drains pipes. The move likewise shows Imdaad's proactive measures to keep the environment green, healthy and sustainable for present and future generations."

"As part of its methods for ecological sustainability, the UAE continues to put strong focus on recycling of used cooking oil. As the market leader in environmental and waste management, Alserkal matches federal government strategies to offer advanced options in FOG waste such as setting up the region's only edible oil healing plant. Our collaboration with Imdaad is a significant step in this instructions as they will assist in the collection and recycling of waste edible oil which can be transformed to biofuel," concluded Alserkal.

As per the Dubai Municipality regulation, all food processing companies are needed to install grease traps in their cooking areas to prevent disposing oil and grease in sewage treatment plants. The FOG waste is transferred to a recycling plant which processes the waste and separates it into reusable components. Grease is used for the production of soap, biodiesel and oil burners, while bio-solids are recycled as fertilizer and the water is utilized for irrigation.
