Etihad ESCO signs MoU with Land Department to explore energy efficiency opportunities

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of Etihad Energy Service Company (Etihad ESCO), and HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new chances and determine standards of energy conservation, to attain financial savings and energy efficiency across all Dubai Land's operations. This supports the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to achieve the sustainable development of the UAE. It also supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to develop Dubai's position as an international hub for clean energy and energy effectiveness.

Signing the MoU was attended by Majida Ali Rashid, Assistant Director General of Dubai Land Department, Waleed Salman, Vice Chairman of Etihad Esco, Stephane Le Gentil, CEO of Etihad Esco, Ali Al Jassim, COO of Etihad ESCO, Ibrahim Al-Zu'bi, Senior Adviser of Sustainability, Mohammed Al Badwawi, Director of Partnerships, and Saeed Al Suwaidi, Manager of Local Partnerships and Public Relations at Dubai Land Department.

"The MoU supports the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the sustainable development in Dubai. It likewise supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to change Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy. It will contribute to attaining Dubai's vision to become the city with the most affordable carbon footprint in the world," said Al Tayer.

"The MoU specifies the structure and establish cooperation in between the two sides, making it possible for Etihad ESCO to explore opportunities to achieve the highest levels of effectiveness to decrease energy use and lower costs throughout all of Dubai Land Department's operations. Etihad ESCO, the leading task by DEWA, will develop a portfolio of options and opportunities to decrease energy usage in all the projects approved by Dubai Land Department in relation to energy performance in Dubai," Added Al Tayer.

"The project with Dubai Land Department is among the applications of the Demand Side Management strategy to lower energy need by 30% by 2030. The method includes 9 programs to handle energy need. These include green building regulations, retrofitting existing buildings, district cooling, wastewater reuse, laws and standards to raise efficiency, energy-efficient street-lighting, and Shams Dubai, concluded Al Tayer.
