Etihad ESCO and DIFC sign an energy performance contract to cut energy use by 72%

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of Etihad Energy Service Company (ESCO), signed an Energy Performance Contract with HE Essa Kazim, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), to replace 28,500 of DIFC's standard light bulbs with LED lights. It likewise supports the Dubai Plan 2021 to change Dubai into a city with a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, while enhancing its position as an international hub for energy performance.

Due to the increasing importance of green energy, DIFC will replace internal and external light bulbs and street lights with LED lights. This will increase and improve energy effectiveness and sustainability. According to the contract, DIFC will achieve 72% in yearly cost savings over 6 years.

DIFC holds an international position and consists of over 1,445 signed up business, with a workforce of 19,808 employees. This number is because of triple by 2024. DIFC is the first financial totally free zone in the UAE to conduct such a major transformation of lighting system infrastructure.

" The finalizing of the agreement supports the directives of our wise leaders to enhance the use of clean and renewable resource, and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to diversify the Emirate's energy resources, and increase dependence on clean and renewable energy," stated Al Tayer.

" This agreement emphasises our role to boost the energy-efficiency market, and our commitment to provide energy solutions, making Dubai a worldwide role model for energy security and efficiency, and financial investments in renewable resource from low carbon. 28,500 traditional light bulbs were replaced with LED lights. This will attain yearly savings of 72% over the next 6 years. In light of this project, we are pleased to take the initial step in developing DIFC as the monetary centre for high-efficiency energy consumption," continued Al Tayer.
