DEWA wins two awards at Asian Smart Cities Awards 2015

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received two awards at the Asian Smart Cities Awards 2015, which was arranged by the Asian Leadership Summit, and held at Taj Dubai Hotel in Burj Khalifa, under the style 'Asian Sustainability Pioneers'. A number of Asia's leading public and private organisations participated in the event, where numerous initiatives and tasks were nominated.

DEWA won in two categories, 'Smart Utilities Initiative' and 'Smart Technology for Smart City'. Jamal Al Hammadi, VP of Special Projects and Marco Janssen, Director, Smart Grid PMO, received the awards on behalf of DEWA.

"In line with the Smart City effort introduced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, making Dubai the most intelligent city worldwide; DEWA is executing three clever initiatives namely 'Shams Dubai', 'Smart Applications via Smart Grid and Meters', and 'Green Charger'. We are delighted with this acknowledgment, which commemorates our progress in wise facilities for electrical energy and water," stated HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer observed that the wise grid initiative is an essential step in the application of the Distributed Renewable Resources Generation (DRRG) programme to reduce demand and accomplish energy efficiency and functional enhancement. This will support DEWA's sustainable development and decreases Dubai's carbon footprint.

"We were pleased to see among the most important efforts, the Smart Grid, recognised in this ceremony. This award works as an evidence that Dubai is on the best track to raise the quality of its services to international levels, which it is in line with the vision of the Government of Dubai. The wise grid method consists of nine programs that will be completed over the short-, medium- and long-term, in between 2014 and 2035. These programs are Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Asset Management, Demand Side Management & Demand Response, Distribution Automation, Information Technology Infrastructure, Systems Integration, Telecommunications, and Big Data and Analytics," stated Waleed Salman, EVP of Strategy and Business Development at DEWA.
