DEWA Inaugurates 400/132kV Substation at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

Dubai, UAE, 21 December 2016: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electrical energy and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the 400/132 kilovolt (kV) substation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The AED 275 million substation has a conversion capability of 1,515 megavolt amperes (MVA). The commencement was participated in by senior officials from Swiss firm ABB, the primary specialists of the project, and senior personnel from DEWA. The substation is one of the initial projects of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. It will certainly transfer and change electricity generated from solar energy and attach it to DEWA's grid. The substation is the very first of its kind in the UAE to integrate clean energy with the typical energy grid.

Frank Duggan, President of Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) at ABB, HE Mohammed Abunayyan, Chairman, ACWA Power, Frederic Trefois, Group Vice President of EPC Solutions at ABB, Novak Stevanovic, Senior Vice President of EPC Solutions Middle East at ABB, and Thomas Rechsteiner, Project Director at ABB, went to the inauguration. DEWA authorities existing consisted of Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation, Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Technique & Business Development, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Yousef Jebril, Executive Vice President of Power, Water & Preparation, Khawla Al Meheiri, Vice President of Advertising and marketing & Corporate Communications, Jamal Al Hammadi, Jamal Al Hammadi, Vice President of Unique Projects, Saeed Al Jallaf, Vice President of Transmission Projects and Permits.

Al Tayer, accompanied by ABB officials, explored the website of the project, which includes four sections. The very first consists of a 400kV substation with 11 gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). The 2nd area transforms from 400 kV to 132kV with a conversion capacity of 1,515 MVA. It consists of 3 400/132 kV interconnecting transformers. The 3rd section has 21 GIS. The fourth area residences the control and safety centers. ABB cooperated with a number of firms, including Energo and Comodor, to complete the project.

"I delight in to welcome you all to the inauguration of the 400/132 kV substation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which was created in adherence with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which is a roadmap we adhere to in all our job, campaigns, and development tasks. This project supports the Dubai Strategy 2021 to change Dubai right into the favored place to live, work, and visit. The 400/132kV substation with an investment of AED 275 million and a conversion capacity of 1,515 megavolt amperes (MVA), is one of the very first jobs of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and will link and transmit the power produced from solar energy generation to DEWA's grid. It is the initial substation of its kind in the UAE which incorporates tidy energy right into the traditional energy network," stated Al Tayer.

"DEWA functions to build world-class energy infrastructure that satisfies Dubai's growth needs, as part of DEWA's continuous efforts to achieve its enthusiastic technique and strategies, to supply the highest standards of availability, dependability and effectiveness. As a result of the value of the project, DEWA routed ABB to abide by the highest degree of health and wellness, and to end up the project on schedule inning accordance with the finest criteria. The project was effectively completed within 26 months. This is a document time for the construction of power plant with a capability of 400 kV. No injuries or accidents were reported throughout the construction of the substation, which built up a total amount of 2.6 million man-hours. This reflects DEWA's dedication to carry out jobs with efficiency, following up with procedures, and monitoring the progression of all projects," included Al Tayer.

Al Tayer kept in mind that DEWA currently is servicing enhancing the transmission capacity of the substation, and its efficiency, through 3 400kV GIS bays, one 400/132kV Transformer (ICT) with a capacity of 505 MVA, 9 132kV GIS bays, and 4 132kV shunt reactors.

"At DEWA, we do not rest on our laurels. Instead, we remain to do our finest. We are devoted to launching better sustainable and clean energy projects, to boost sustainability and green economic climate, and assist establish a brighter and better future, for generations to find," ended Al Tayer.

"ABB is pleased to support Dubai's clean power vision by being a modern technology partner to DEWA at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. As a leader in the energy revolution, ABB is perfectly placed to support growth of renewables in the UAE energy mix and strengthen its power framework," stated Frank Duggan, President of AMEA at ABB.

"The ABB substation at the solar park will certainly be the very first 400kV station in the UAE linked to integrate solar power, promoting trustworthy and efficient transmission of clean power. We eagerly anticipate remaining to sustain DEWA, which has actually earmarked sustainability as a key emphasis location to match development plans for a green UAE economic climate," included Duggan.
